An experiment in destroying the visual pleasure of the male gaze.
In turning titillation into disgust.
In transforming the sexualized into the grotesque.
The piece engages with the language of sexualisation and objectification – focusing on the lips in close-up and thus presenting a part of a sexualized body as a stand-in for the whole; the actions of pouting and biting of the lips suggesting that the sexual availability of this figure is their defining characteristic – in order to ultimately over-turn it. Eating for the visual pleasure of the viewer becomes eating for the taste and felt experience of the eater.
