Fear Inherited - Carissa Licciardello
00:0000:00
An exploration of intuition in the face of seeming danger, from childhood through womanhood.
An indictment of the inhospitable world in which women must be ever-cautious; of rape culture, of gendered violence, of ever-rising statistics.
An emotional response.
A first attempt at spoken-word poetry.
This is a medium I have frequently admired for its combination of linguistic poeticism and performative potential – a way of giving language a physical dimension and impact; and for me, a female artist, a means to transmit experience affectively. This version of the piece is provided without visuals, focused upon the spoken word only.
